Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic surgery is a keyhole technique in which the surgeon works through a few small incisions using a camera and fine instruments, rather than opening the joint. It is used to diagnose and treat problems in the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow and ankle — from torn cartilage and damaged ligaments to inflamed joint lining and loose fragments of bone.

Because the surrounding tissue is left largely intact, most patients go home the same day and return to everyday activity considerably sooner than after open surgery.
