Botox

Botox is a common cosmetic procedure and is performed on an out-patient basis, but can also be combined with in-patient services. Botox is a form of botulinum toxin which is injected into the skin using a fine needle. Botox is a mild treatment and therefore an anesthetic is not required, though sometimes a doctor or nurse will apply a topical numbing cream before your treatment.

Botox causes a mild paralysis and is used to treat and reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow's feet and small lines around the mouth. Botox can also be used to prevent muscle spasms and treat medical issues such as hyperactive nerves, chronic pain and migraines.

Botox injections usually take 10-15 minutes and there is no downtime. Some patients feel a little tired after receiving their Botox, therefore exercise is not recommended on the day of your treatment. It is also recommended that you sleep with your head slightly raised and that you sleep on your back the first night after treatment.

Botox treatments usually show effect within the first 1-2 weeks and will need to be repeated every few months to maintain the desired results.

Botox treatments should always be delivered by a trained and certified Doctor or Nurse.
