Eye Lid Surgery

Eye lid surgery (Blepharoplasty) is a common cosmetic surgery that is used to reduce puffiness or sagging or drooping skin around the eyes. This procedure can help to remove excess fat deposits by doing an upper eyelid surgery, this tends to reduce puffiness around the eye. Lower lid surgery can remove excess skin which will help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and reduce under eye bags. Tightening the skin around the eyes can also help return the eye to its natural shape which may help to reduce impaired vision that may have resulted from sagging skin. If you have an eye disease such as a retinal issue or glaucoma or certain thyroid disorders, cardiac issues or diabetes you may not be a good surgical candidate for eye lid surgery.

Eye lid surgery is usually completed on an outpatient basis, but occasionally you may need a 1-night stay in the hospital. Usually a local, oral or IV anaesthesia is used. There may be swelling and bruising for several days but this should reduce over the first two weeks. Regular activities and exercise should be resumed after a few weeks, the surgeon will specify the rest and recuperative period.
