Neck Lift
A neck lift (Platysmaplasty) works to reduce skin sagging and wrinkles and improve the firmness of the neck and improve jaw definition by removing excess skin and tightening the muscles of the neck. Liposuction may be used to remove fat deposits if required. Aging and weight loss are usually the cause of sagging neck skin and can result in loose skin, often referred to as a turkey neck. Once the platysma muscle is weakened it requires surgical repair to restore it.
A neck lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, a general anesthetic is usually required. Incision lines are located behind the ears but sometimes there will be an incision required under the chin. After surgery the neck will be sore and there will be a tightness sensation until you become used to the changes in the skin. Swelling and bruising usually subside within a few days but a neck compression band or wrap will be required for a few weeks post operatively to reduce swelling and help contour the neck. The healing time is 4-6 weeks for the entire swelling to go away and the result to be natural looking. No exercise or strenuous activity should be completed for 3-4 weeks after surgery, but the surgeon will confirm this as each case is unique. Incisions will be visible for up to 6 months during the healing period.
